WE ALL DESERVE SOME ACCOLADES, INCLUDING MR PRESIDENT
So recently the President of Nigeria, President Muhammad Buhari, made a statement that made the nation go wild, "Nigerian youths are lazy". Wawu!
"What he was thinking when he said this, no one knows, but one thing is for sure, the youths are angry and he just lost every vote that could have counted in the elections that weren't 'sure for him' in the first place. How dare he sit abroad and insult the future leaders of tomorrow like that? He claims we are lazy, yet he who is hardworking is sitting all high and mighty in another man's land, enjoying what he can't provide in his own country. And he dares to call me lazy?!?
I have responsibilities to fulfill, I run a business with no fund from the government, at the same time I go to school, attend lectures, buy hand-outs, write tests, photocopy materials and I'M LAZY??
I hawk on the streets to put food on my table, in traffic jams, risking my life everyday, standing in the middle of the road, facing death each time I stand in front of a car or truck, I mean what if the brake fails and you say I'M LAZY???
I graduated with a 4.5 GPA, B,s.c Engineering, I have a master's degree and a PhD in engineering. Searched for jobs for years to no avail. I eventually settled for the post of a janitor in an hotel and you have the audacity to call me LAZY!
I gather a group of people to come together to start a movement, #lendahandafrica #helpthegirlchild #walkforautism #payforum #youthempowerment #ibadanprenuersnetwork,
All these for the betterment of the nation, to brighten the future of the country and it's people, so that we don't become as helpless as the people in Gbemisola Adeoti's poem "Ambush", 'all peters with petered out desires'. Still you think I'm lazy.
I DESERVE SOME ACCOLADES"
Those are a few of the responses he got from the"lazy youths". But then before we all judge this man, let's all try to be rational.
First off, the truth is this; there really are some lazy Nigerian youths. Key word "some". So when the President made this statement, he had THOSE ones in mind, however few they are. I mean come on Nigerians, he has youths as children as well. Are we saying he's calling them lazy also?
I want us to have open minds. It's just like when women say men are scum, they know it's not ALL men. They are aware that there are good, responsible men out there. So why not think the same way in this situation. Look at it like a parent scolding you (knowing you have a job or you just got back from school) when you refuse or grumble or complain about doing something. What do they say? "you're lazy". They are aware that you're not but due that circumstance you are pegged as one.
Let's face it, the main reason for this retribution is because we were already angry with previous incidents that occured during his tenure, especially the increase in price of goods and commodities.
We fail to realise that we voted him in ourselves. #CHANGE #SAIBABA
He fulfilled his promise to us, he brought about change, just not in the way we expected.
It's not easy to rule a country as unique as Nigeria, so he deserves some accolades. We blame him for every bad thing in this country including those he has nothing to do with, yet he's still calm. So no matter how many wrongs he has done, offences he has committed, he still deserves some accolades.
WE ALL DESERVE SOME ACCOLADES, INCLUDING MR PRESIDENT.
